Elected Member Social Care Commission

In September 2020 we established our Elected Member Commission to investigate the impact of Covid-19 on people (adults aged 18+), their families and communities and what this tells us about the role our communities play in supporting people to live independently at home.

We asked for eye-witness accounts from people or organisations which told the story of the pandemic so far and how it was felt by people with adult social care needs and their carers and the role our communities have played in supporting them.

We have been humbled, inspired and, at times, heartbroken by the stories we have read and heard. Our report provides a broad account of what we heard and identifies lessons learned. Our recommendations are aimed at councils and look beyond the pandemic at how our learning can shape future service design.

We would like to thank all the people who took part. This work is dedicated to them, and the many thousands of people like them.

Elected Members are local councillors elected by the local population to represent them on the local council. The Social Care Commission is made up of councillors who have a specific job to focus on Adult Social Care.

North West ADASS is an organisation which represents the region’s 23 local authorities and supports the improvement of adult social care services for people across the region.
